How to Make Medicinal Cooking Butter The Benefits of Eating Marijuana: Eating marijuana can help with pain, nausea, stress and many other ailments.   In addition, if your lifestyle does not support the smell from smoking marijuana you can still enjoy the quality of life and still treat your pain the way you want.     Keep In Mind:
  • During and after making marijuana butter, the smell will linger in the household for about a day.  Be sure to take this into consideration before starting this recipe.
  • Eating marijuana butter on a full stomach could slow the effects of it’s medicinal qualities, as it will take longer to be absorbed into your blood stream.
  • 1 lb unsalted butter
  • ¼ oz to 1 oz marijuana buds (1 – 2 oz if you are using shake and/or trim)
  • Double boiler pot (or a metal bowl to fit inside a larger pot)
  • Metal spoon
  • 3 pieces of cheese cloth
  • 1 seal-able container (to store butter)
  1. The first thing you need to do is decide how much marijuana buds or shake you are going to use.  This should be decided based on your discretion of what your tolerance level is.  It is best to start off with the minimal amount of ¼ oz.  (Double this amount if you are using shake.) This is because you do not want to have too strong of butter if you have never consumed it in this way before.  Also, if this is your first time making pot butter you do not want to commit too much to something that you might not enjoy or wish to repeat.
  1. Secondly, grind up the desired amount of marijuana.  Make sure that you are getting lots of surface area coverage.  Although you do not want it turning into powder, as it will make it hard to filter out the plant matter in your final steps.
  1. Fill your pot with water and check to make sure that the bottom of your bowl or top pot is touching the water.  Turn the element on mid-high so the water comes to a rolling boil.   Once the water is boiling, place bowl in pot.
  1. Melt butter in top pot or bowl.  This must not be left unattended.  Once butter is melted, add the marijuana.  Simmer on low for 2-3 hours while stirring every 5 minutes.
  1. Let the butter cool down for about 10 minutes.  Time for a joint!  You deserve it at this point.
  1. After cooling, strain butter through cheesecloth into a seal-able container.  Repeat this process until all plant matter has been removed from the butter.  Be sure to squeeze the ball of plant matter in the cheesecloth so you get every last drop!
  1. Properly label and store container so it is out of reach of little ones.  Butter can also be stored in the freezer for a later date.
  1. Enjoy!
