January 1st 2013 marked the first day marijuana was made legal in the state of Massachusetts for medicinal purposes. The law is quite different from other states in terms that a patient will obtain a 60 day supply of cannabis based on his or her condition. Similar to other States you'd still require to obtain a written recommendation from a registered physician. Recently it was voted that cities in MA would not be able to ban marijuana facilities due to the fact that it would conflict with the 63% vote that allowed the program in the first place. Under this law all criminal penalties are removed for possession and minor cultivation is a patient can prove that he/she has economic hardships. In addition to this the law also created space for 35 medical marijuana treatment centers to be established which would be issued by the state and would work on a non-profit basis. Conditions that are "pre-approved" in terms of medical conditions are as follows;- Cancer
- Glaucoma
- human immunodeficiency disorder
- Acquired Immune Deficiency Disorder Syndrome (AIDS)
- Hepatitis C
- Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn's Disease
- Parkinson's Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
